As we celebrate Earth Day we would like to give people insight on how you can make little changes to shopping habits to make a big difference.
1. Firstly, use reusable bags! 🛍️
Most of us have these lying around our house, but not in the car ready for when we do a grocery shop. To help you stay away from carrier bags, put your reusable bags back in your boot right after you have unloaded the shopping.
2. Recycle right ♻️
Recycling reduces the need for extracting, refining and processing raw materials all of which create air and water pollution. As recycling saves energy it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change.
3. Start a compost heap 🍂
Composting reduces your plants need for chemical fertilisers by encouraging the production of beneficial bacteria and nutrient rich material. You also reduce the amount being sent to a landfill which reduces methane emissions.
4. Buy local 🥬
Not only will this support your local high street or family run stores, you will save on fuel and reduce transport emissions from your car.
5. Eat more veggies 🚜
There is evidence to suggest that a diet that is high in vegetable content and low in meat products could be better for the environment. Vegetables have a lower environmental impact than livestock thanks to the reduced energy requirements and minimal greenhouse gas output. We’re proud that our Coleslaw and Potato Salad is vegetarian and we’re also launching a vegan range soon!
